This course looks at campus master planning for what it is: good urban design. The most ubiquitous, agreeable, and empowering form of professional urban design practice in existence, campus master planning is the paragon of urban design. Students will learn how to make key urban connections, empower communities through charrettes and public workshops, do sustainability, and solve all of higher education's problems. This course will also equip students with critical adjectives, power verbs, and impressive jargon: strategic, utilize, green, walkable, holistic, empower, complete streets, smart, TOD, CNU, sustainable, historic, equitable, green roofs, human-scale, and much much more.
As Jane Jacobs, our lord and savior, once said, "cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody."
